  • Automatic transmission indicator Bulb Out

I did a search and didn't see anything. But how hard is it to change this bulb. I know the part number for the bulb, but is it an easy change or will there be a risk of breaking the center console trying to get to it.

You mean the bulb that tells you what gear you're in? Just pull out the console, the wire is connected to it. twist and the clip comes out, pull out the bulb and put the new one in.

Cool I didn't know if it was like the Radio, and you had to break into it

        A more detailed explanation...

        First, engage the parking brake.

Next, shift into 1st gear and take a screwdriver and pry out the staple holding the shift knob in place. Remove the shift knob and store the staple with it nearby.

Open up the center console lid and remove the change holder. Underneath the change holder are two hex nuts, I don't know the exact size, but they're fairly small. Unscrew them and then take off the console top.

There'll be a wire going into the upper console lid that you just removed (where the shift plate is). Twist this and the bulb holder will come out. Yank out the old bulb and put in a new one, then screw it back in and reverse what you just did.

Sometimes the holder ocmes unscrewed and the bulb isn't actually dead (this happened to me). If that's the case, just twist the bulb holder back into place. If the bulb is indeed dead, replace it with a #73 instrument panel bulb (NOT a 74). This is the only place where this bulb occurs in the car, FWIW.

Yes, the lights are in the shifter.

its a quick enough dismantle of the console. Stick a screwdriver in your pocket.... NOT your front pocket. ouch!! better yet, just place it on the passenger seat. Drive to Advance/ AutoZone, or any auto parts store. take 5 minutes to pull the shifter plate off. Take out the light, walk into store and ask them for a bulb to match. Any of those places should carry them.

the bulb is directly under the piece of the sifter plate that says 'P R D 3 2 1'
