  • whats the best quality oil?

i pretty much know nothing about motor oils, and im coming close for changing it, what would you recommend for high performance and whatnot. i like to WOT alot if thats a factor

    Good lord. Wrong section.

If you want a high performance oil go with a synthetic oil, such as Mobil 1 or Royal Pruple.

I would not suggest switching to synthetic if you don't run it already on a high milage engine. it will clean out everything and your seals might start to leak where the regular oil clumped up to stop the leak. however if you don't have a lot of miles I say go for it. I myself started using amsoil synthetic at 58K, which is when I got the car. has 107K not and no signs of engine trouble, with only a very small gasket leak, which is expected at this milage.

Ok first off this is in the wrong section. Im moving it to General Tech.

second. Recommended oil is 10w30 for our 3.8's. If you want the best then Mobil 1 full synthetic is my preference. If you want good oil thats not synthetic stay with Valvoline or Quakerstate. Dont buy Gas station brand oil.

Another thing about brand of oil, there are so many big names out there and they all make great oil. But its like chosing a brand of milk from the grocery store. All brands of milk come from a cow. But everyone has a preference. I think more importantly then brand is grade of oil. You would be suprised how many oil brands come from the same manufacturer. Shell lubricants owns alot of them. Quakerstate and pennzoil basically the same thing with a different label. Just buy a name brand oil and your fine.

Oh and stay away from high mileage oil. Its garbage. Swells seals and gaskets and causes more leaks in the future.

This is bogus. Alot of people think this but in fact it is not true. Synthetic works fine regardless of miles and you are ok to run synthetic and switch back to regular oil. Regardless of what you hear.

Really? I have been using the Penzoil 10W-30 high mileage oil for about 6 months now. Provides enhanced protection for worn engine parts.
Helps prevent engine leaks and oil burn off.
Helps condition seals in older engines.
Has excellent anti-aging detergent to help keep engine clean.
                Helps protect engine from overheating.

hmmmm have to do more research on this

That was due to not having the correct coolant level. It never did actaully OVERHEAT

Synthetic is your best choice, hands down. I too am a mobile one loyalist.

well it would kinda depend on if you like to tear down your engine a lot and stuff. if so don't waste money on the expensive stuff, get regular oil. it will just be wasted. if not I personally would go synthetic.
