I'm getting this whining sound coming through my stereo (regardless if the voume is off)...it seems to be matching a whine that i'm hearing in my engine (kinda hard cause i have a blower)... my air to fuel gauge is all screwed...it is giving me a really rich reading..... and it seems like i'm using up a lot of gas i mean....i drove the thing normally for like 30 mins today and i burned about a 1/4 of a tank.....i dunno what it could be.....u think my alternator might start going?
any tips...
thanks

Umm ... dude ... wtf? You have like 80 things going on. Is that whine your fuel pump? Sounds like rear speakers sometimes. If you're worried about stereo, disconnect stuff. Look for fuel leaks. Make sure you've got the A/F on right, and that all of your intake / vac lines are ok.

Generaly.. if your HU is not on.. you wont get any speaker noise..
but.. just in case disconnect the wiring harness on the back of your hu, and undo the power/ground leads on your amp (if you have one)
If you still here the noise its not your stereo..
But as stated above.. it could be a ground issue.. I like that idea.. check all of your stereos grounds.. your amps grounds.. your neons grounds.. ECT ECT... make sure you have a good connection on bare mettal for ALLLLLL of them..
I think someone needs to either give more/better info.. or just call an exorcist

So i took it for a rip, i think the loss of fuel is in my head.... but that noise is driving me crazy....doesn't really explain why my a/f guage is all whacked....if i was running that rich, i would be smelling it....
The buzzing/whining sound is coming thru the speakers, and when i was parked i was fooling around by pushing the brake (i.e. turning the brake lights out) and that buzzing sound kept getting a higher pitch when i'd push the brake....also i noticed my music (even my radio) would cut out sometimes.... now i'm convinced that it is probably a loose ground.....however what happened to my a/f guage? i'm thinking two scenarios here:
1. The ground is screwing up my air/fuel guage.... or
2. There was a short and my guage has been screwed i.e. making it malfunction.
what ya'll think..... i hope it is nothing big.
thanks for the help though i really appreciate it.
p.s. i do have an entire aftermarket stereo system with amps and subs etc..... and the switch that i have turning on my amps and subs, is the same switch that turns on my guages as well.
thanks again

uhhh.. isolate that "switch".. run your amps of the hu's accessory/pwr antenna lead.. and completly seperate it from the guages.. check grounds while you are at it..
The whining that you are hearing is alternator whine.
As said before check all your stereo connections, mainly your power and ground. If they are all good, try replacing your RCA's with shielded RCA's.

That definitely sounds like alternator whine - I used to have the same problem. Run your RCA signal wires as far away as you can from you amp power wires. I did mine up opposite sides of the car. Keep them separated until they hit the amp.
