If it is coming from the back your gears could be winning. Then again it could be anything. Can you elaborate a litle bit more? Does it only make noise, any vibrations?

Not much to go on, could be your front wheel bearings.

I'll share this with you -- recently my '88 Fiero was making a terrible squealing sound. Sounded like metal rubbing on metal. I thought it was something heavy duty like bearings, half shaft etc, even had the car towed home 75 miles. It turned out to be a small rock caught between the brake rotor and the rotor shield. Simply pulled the shield away from the rotor, rock fell out, squeal went away.

          Hope it is something simple.
