  • Big electrical problem with my car...Please help me...

K boys, here's the problem... so i was parked with this girl tonight....we were listening to some tunes for like an hour (with the car off)...so it was time to leave....so i start the car like normal, starts good....so as we're driving..i hear this buzz coming in from the stereo...i lower the volume down, but its coming in regardless of volume..... so iget freaked out.....i pull over, i pull out the fuse cover on the drivers side and see if anything is screwed up in there...everything seemed fine, however there are two metal (fuses i beleive) they are bigger than the other ones...anyways those were really really hot.....i let the car sit for a bit..... My air to fuel guage was all out of whack when i was driving too, it was all over the place.....so i wait 5 mins, start it up again...start driving....initially no noise.....but i could see it coming cause my aiir to fuel guage was still whacked.....then the buzzing noise comes again through the stereo..... it is a loud abnormal noise that i've never hear....

I've had a supercharger for like 2-3 years, w/ no problems, i have an aftermarket stereo, with amps and subs..... but i've had that on for like 2 years and no problems....

what could it be guys?? please help me out? u think i blew a fuse or something....??

    thanx

Ok well the two bigger fuses are just circuit breakers instead of fuses, usually for power windows, power seats and rear defrosters. They warm up when these devices are being used. Your problem sounds like messed up diodes in your alternator. When these go bad the power signal fed back to your car gets choppy and isnt smooth, it will make things work erratically or not at all. Usually you will often hear a buzzin from the alternator as well. This poor power signal gets passed through the amps in your stero regardless of the volume. But a heads up, a loose plug wire or an arcing plug wire can cause a buzz in your stereo as well. The arc causes an irregularity on the ground plane of your car, that also is heard in the stereo.

I would go get your alternator tested at autozone, advance, etc., If that is not the problem, check plug wires. If not that, perhaps your stereo and amps have gone whack, and they are actually creating the probelms. Believe me, its possible. The messed up A/F guage makes me think you have a lose plug wire, and that cylinder isnt firing and throwing off the mixture.

I was thinking about the plugwire being off too....but the car seems tobe running fine.... i'm still getting some good power down to the wheels....so i'm not sure....i always figured that if a cyclinder wasn't firing that i'd see a very noticeable difference in power......but my car seems to be running ok (i think), i've narrowed the buzzing down to abad ground/bad alternator (i'm guessing) but still kinda confuses me about the a/f guage....

i'll go get it checked out....... if a plug wire is at fault then i gotta check those anyways.......maybe its something to do with that recall that gm had with our wires a couple of years ago....i never had to do that....maybe it is faulting now...

            i'll keep u guys posted...

I had a bad plug wire which caused engine problems only, but all my stereo stuff is connected right to the battery to avoid a bad ground which can cause a buzzing. It could be a bad plug wire or a one of your +stereo wires is touching a ground somewhere. If you have an amp disconnect the + line from the battery or where every it is connected to and see if the buzzing goes away. I would also check your A/F wiring to make sure the lines are not touching. My engine would run fine some times and bad others so a bad wire might not cause engine problems right away. if you have the time pulling all the wires and inspecting them would help filter out that idea.

Well i took it in today to get the alternator inspected......and.............
my diode in the alternator was shot...........$250 later.... i have a new 5 yr warranty alternator... and it solved all my problems, including the stereo and the a/f guage....i would never think that the alternator would screw up the guage....but at least the problem is solved.....as for the circuit breakers being hot....i remember that i had recently defogged my back window, and that's why it was so hot when i put my hand in there....i never thought those would get so hot either..

anyways, problem solved, thank you so much for all ur help, i really appreciate it.
