Is there a way that my water pump can be running when the engines on and have a switch to turn it on when its not running for extra cooling? I really dont care it its pointless i just want it done, or if not, is there a was i can manually turn on the H2O pump, but i would like the first idea better, if so, how do you wire it, thanks alot! 1996 Camaro V6

What viper meant to say... is unless you have an electric aftermarket waterpump your waterpump is belt driven by the engine. Thus if your engine isn't running the water pump cannot be turned on in any way, since the engine literally spins the waterpump.

If the engine is off and there air is not travelling across the radiator, it will not help cool it very much anyway.

True. but a manual fan switch and an electric water pump running while the car was off would cool it very fast. But without that having a waterpump run while the car is off will really not do much of anything.

Umm.. why worry about it? Some Turbocharged cars have turbotimers, which keep the car running to cool everything down for a bunch of seconds after you turn it off and get out.

These little 6's don't need that unless you have some crazy high-compression dragster ;)

Thats because you don't want the oil in the turbo to "coke" because it will reduce the life of your turbo greatly. The turbo will continue to spin without any oil pressure which means the oil around the shaft will take on heat very fast.

Thats not quite the same as he is talking about....but you still don't need it to cool down any faster when not running.

plain and simple, you need an aftermarket electric water pump and a manual fan switch

Yup, and the reason to "worry" about it is because it cuts down cooling time between track runs.

</font>[/QUOTE]Turbo Timer is a worthless WORTHLESS device. Just drive the car like a normal person for 5 minutes before you park it. Leave it running for like 30sec to a minute and your fine.

i didnt think about the beltdrive, i thought it was electric, where could i get one, i can do the fan switch myself, i was going to do it next weekend anyway, what would i have to do for an electric water pump? (to wire a switch, and keep it on when the car is running?)

all you gotta do for a switch is get a switch (radio shack, auto parts store), and cut either the power or ground in half, and put one half on the one metal tab on the back of the switch, and the other half on the other metal tab, and voila, manual water pump. just remember to turn it on.

You'll need a shorter belt. Also the electric water pump should run as soon as you turn the key to the ON position, so you don't NEED the fan switch.
