generally high performance coils help most at high rpm's because the primary side takes less time to saturate.
if you're not experiencing misfire, i'd look for other causes, maybe fuel system. changed fuel filter lately? how is your fuel pressure? i'd also maybe do injector pressure balance test if you have access to injector pulsing tool.
generally if a coil is going bad, the car will "miss" or cut out, especially under a load. in OBD-II system you will probably see the MIL come on.
check fuel press and volume, visually examine engine for any obvious problems (disconnected or crakced hoses and electrical connections, etc), change fuel filter if you haven't done this in a while. if injector pressure drop is less than specified, clean or replace injectors. professional pressure cleaning is MUCH better than the pour in the tank stuff.
the symptoms you describe just dont sound like ignition problem...ASE Master, L1, X1, C1. Instructor in automotive systems. 99 3800 4L60E with a few mods and a greatful dead sticker on the back window.
