  • CHP article...food for thought

If anyone here is a subscriber to Chevy High Performance (CHP), check out the Sept. 2002 issue. On page 79, there is a little tech tip that I wanted to mention and get some feedback on:

    13. Filter Facts
A small-block Checy engine locates its oil filter on the bottom of the cylinder block using a male fitting adapter to connect the oil filter to the block. This adapter features a pressure-sensitive oil bypass hole that redirects unfiltered oil back through the engine. If you want to ensure that all the oil is filtered, remove the spring inside the bypass and tap the hole for a 1/4-inch pipe plug. The plugged bypass hole forces all of the oil to be directed through the filter. When the bypass is plugged, it is imperative to use a full size high-quality oil filter to accomodate the additional oil flow. Also be sure to let the oil warm before running the engine hard. The filter is more of a restriction with cold oil.

Just thought I might throw this out for comments.
