Looks like a new problem has come to show it's ugly head. I started up my camaro yesterday morning and noticed the car was at 2000 rpm at Idle (approx 1700)!! Normally the car idles at 800-1000 rpm's. Anyone know what the heck is going on and how to fix it? The car has 154000 miles on it now, and was completely tuned at 100,000 miles. It has the 3.4L motor(auto), don't know if this is common with these motors or not. If I left out any important info, just ask and I'll include it in the replies. Thanks again.

IAC= idle air control selinoid. on a 3.4 I am unsure of it;s exact location but it's alwys somewhere on the throttle body. It;s black, kinda small and has a 4 wire connector. It's held on usualy by 2 t20 torxs screws. I would remove it and see if it;s really dirty. You can clean it and the passage that it connects to with a tooth brush and carb cleaner1996 Silver camaro Z28. lol. yeah.. yelling bad.
there is TPS which also is held on by 2 screws but it;s 3 wire and will be across from the throttle blade. make sure that it;s the IAC your messing with. take it out and take a look at it but you might need a new one. still a vac leak is possible.1996 Silver camaro Z28. Okay, took a look at the wires and its a 3 three wire plug...so it must be the TPS. The TPS is located aft and to the right of the throttle blade and the IAC is located just above it (with 4 wires). Called Advance Auto and picking up new one on the way home ($24.00). Hopefully that takes care of that, we'll see. I'll reply again tomorrow to let you guys know if I'm still having the problem. Thanks guys.

Hmmm...okay, I replaced the TPS and noticed the rpm's were high at first (above 2000). So I turned off the car and restarted it again. After the restart, idle was at 1400. I took the car for a test drive and this is what I got so far:
1. under normal stops rpm's @1000
2. car in park and running rpm's @1400
3. car does not "hop" out of park when
rpm's were at 1700-2000 (go figure!)
The old TPS was definetly worn out by the looks of it and it was original (154,000 miles). So my next question would be: Is 1400 rpm okay? I'm thinking the old part idle @ 800 rpm's cause of wear, therefore 800 rpm's is actually on the low side. What are you guys getting for idle ('94 3.4L auto)? By the way, we checked for vacuum leaks, none found.

wait.. you replaced teh TPS and not the IAC? why?
The IAC controls idle. The TPS just goves the computer information for WOT, PT, and CT conditions1996 Silver camaro Z28.
