  • Air Conditioning Warms Up At Acceleration

    Quick Question for you guys. Is it normal for the A/C to get really warm under hard acceleration? Or should I change my Coolant mixture? I'm not even sure what it is right now. In about 800 miles I'm changing the oil as well as the fuel filter so might as well do this.

    What type of coolant should I use? And what mixture should I use for North Carolina summer weather.

    Nope thats normal, our compressors self disable under hard acceleration for more power! :D

        JVT, I notice you have a 160 thermo. Technically both fans dont' come on to 210degrees I think. So if your thermo is making the temp stay below that the fans won't cool it off. A manual fan switch helps this a lot. If the temp is bothering you, you can just keep both fans on so it will help cool before it gets up there. It's really helping me a lot.

          Actually its not in there yet... i should really take that off. I was going to start and install it one weekend with the manual fan switch (the do it yourself one not the slp one) but I heard it wasn't going to work and give me an SES light.

            It's not for more power.

            It's so the compressor doesn't destroy itself/burn itself out under hard acceleration.

            It is a belt driven compressor...

              Actually both fans always turn on, its just that they switch speeds. When you turn on your A/C, the fans will always come on low speed when your doing under 40 MPH. Above 40 MPH and with a safe engine temp, they turn off. With A/C on, under 40 MPH, and temp above 210 fans kick on high.

              Never heard of a 160 degree thermo setting a SES light in a '97 3.8L. It might run hot in NC with no manual fan switch, and very cool in the winter, but no SES light. I really recommend a manual fan switch, easy to do, helps out a whole lot.
