• Please help me with Vibration

Hello Board....I posted this topid to this board a while back, and have since tried solving it using some of your suggestions with no success....just looking to see if you all have any more ideas. My car has an awful vibration to it when idling in drive. The vibration is not there when the car is in Park or Neutral, but is present most of the time in all the other gears. I can feel the vibration in the steering wheel and the dash vibrates really bad, also most of the time I notice the Voltmeter is around the 13 mark and seems to move back and forth slightly as the car does this. I have checked the TPS sensor, IAC valve, and IAC sensor, I have replaced the plugs and wires, and have checked the all the coil packs and all seem to be fine. Some people have said it could be the driveshaft, but I was thinking it wouldn't be because that since the shaft doesn't spin when the car is stopped, anybody have any ideas??? Thanks

greetings fellow charlottian....
rough idle in gear, goes away in P or N.
if you are not moving how can it be your driveshaft???

if you have 96-up and you want me to hook the scan tool up and check it out, email me and let me know. i can't promise anything but its worth looking at. nothing like looking at the data in person...

could be any number of things, pcm sensors or actuators, sticking or faulty injectors, base (internal) engine problems, etc....

email me and tell me about your car (year, mileage, trans, etc...) and also let me know if you want me to take a look at it. i'm in k-town but either one of us could travel or both of us could and meet 1/2 way...

just thought I'd add:

my in-laws 94 camaro does the exact same thing. Vibrates terribly in D when waiting at a light, shaking the dash, steering wheel and you can hear some plastic squeaks.

Not sure what it is, but if you have around the same year, might be a flaw.

Ok, this is old, but my car vibrates in drive like a fat chick's vindicator ramrod dildo. shakes the dash and gives me a headache when the windows are closed.

I was thinking it might be a clogged cat, but figure it would vibrate at speed... not idle.

Anybody ever figure this one out?

Are the RPM's OK? They should be somewhere around 750 at idle I think. If they dip too low you'll probably start getting vibration and shaking.

rpm's are fine. I figure it's either a torque converter problem or a plugged cat/bad exhaust system.

The inspector at Canadian Tire said my Exhaust is pressed against my K-member. He wouldn't adjust it cuz he didn't want to break the bolts.

Any suggestions on how to slide the exhaust pipe back a centimetre or so?

There are a few posts containing complaints of vibration and such.

Nobody ever mentions what was wrong or how they fixed the problem. Thought I'd share... ;)

i thinks its BS about the k-member. if it was the exhaust, then it would do it whenever the car is on, drive or not. i read about this a month or so back cause my neon is doing the same thing in drive.

I think the lower rpm's of the engine in drive (engine has a slight load) can cause the exhaust to vibrate the k-member. Give it a little gas and the engine smooths out, taking away the vibration.

My car vibrates when the torque converter locks-up and rpm's are extremely low on the highway as well.

I'll let ya know if this was the problem when I get around to fixing it
