I just fixed this problem on my 1994 Camaro. It now idles smooth as glass in gear at idle.

I figured I'd post the solution.
My 3.4 camaro shook like a mother at idle in gear. Man it was bad! In P or N it went almost completely away. rev to 1000 rpm and it was gone completely.

    Solution: replace the motor mounts.

Reason: after 12 years they commonly dry out. The rubber shrinks. They no longer isolate the vibration of the motor from the chasis as they should. Many cars with bad motor mounts are mis-diagnosed as having misfires or other issues.

Cost: $35.00 each X2 at dealer discout price.

Installation: 2 hours. It requires some sockets, jack, jackstands and a short piece of wood 2x4.

    Procedure:

Raise the car and support it with the jackstands.

remove the long bolt and nut that goes through the drivers side mount.

Place the jack under the oil pan with a piece of wood between the jack and pan.

Jack the motor up so the mount seperates

remove the mount and install the new one

Lower the motor back into the mount

replace the long bolt and nut

    repeat for passenger side.

    lower car

    enjoy your smooth engine

    done!

      Hi Tracy,

I changed the motor mounts and the vehicle still vibrates in drive. The old mounts looked mint to me. Going to adjust the position of my y-pipe, as it looks sort of bent into my k-member.

any other suggestions? Coil packs maybe?

could my muffler have a hole in it that I can't see, and cause the vibes?

I have a similar problem. my 99 bird shakes around 1500 rpm in every gear. like when I start out it shakes more then when it shifts into 2nd and drops to 1500it shakes a little again.. there is also like a kind of wierd almost grind sound (but it isn't bad enough to worry me just anoying) that is really quick like right when i pass 1500 rpm. does anyone know what that could be from? it just really buggin me.
