• Changing Spark Plugs and Wires

Is it worth it to have the plugs and wires changed or to do it your self, looks like a pain in the *** but i dont know. How Much would it cost me to have them changed??

...actually I have the same problem with my wires.
I tired to change them on the weekend but it was tooooo hot and pain in the butt. So, I gave up.

When I got my spark plugs changed in the fall I paid $350 CDN. I didn`t change the wires, though.

As far as I know wires should last you for a long time.

When you get them changed make sure they`re placed and protected (silicon and coating) properly, that will ensure you they last longer.

My wires where touching somewhere and the ruber melted and started the misfire. For quick fix I just sprayed it with with silicone and it`s better but I`ll changed them in 2 weeks.

i hope this helps

It is a pain in the a$$ to do yourself, but that's half the fun of owning a car isn't it.

I also know most places will charge you quite a bit to change them for you.

When I had my plugs changed at 75k I had my mechanic do it, cost me about 100 bucks for labor and plugs. When it came time for wires I had a friend help me. Took us less than 2 hrs, and that was doing 8 wires (I didn't realize some wires were longer than others, so we had to switch around a few ) I imagine plugs are harder than wires, but if I had it to do over again I'd do it myself, wires were alot easier than I thought. Get a friend who's done a plug change before, some jack stands and ramps, and you'll be good to go. Good luck

Changing the plugs and wires was under a hundred bucks for me.

I just changed 1 plug wire at a time, running the new one in the same location and making sure the convaluted tubing was protecting the wire as designed, rather easy process.

The sparkplugs were a experience.

I changed #1 and #2 from the top.

I put the socket on the plug from the bottom and ratcheted them out from the top on #3 and #4 (especially difficult to get to).

I changed #5 and #6 from the bottom and thought they were the easiest to do.

I also suggest verifying the plug gap.

I have never trusted that 'pre-set from the factory' BS.

Your plug gap should be .060

Good luck if you do it yourself!

I paid about $110 for the plug/wire install, and I provided the parts. I bought the NGK plugs and Taylor wires for about $75. I attempted it myself, however it was more than I could tackle in the parking lot at my college. The plugs are a huge PITA to reach because of their placement. It's up to you on how much twisting you want to do or to just pay someone.

Do it yorself!!!!!! This is the easiest way I found to do the plugs on 3.8's. I've already done it twice.

1, 2, and 4 from the top

3, 5, and 6 from the bottom.
