On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest, I would say a 2 :D Might be easier on your '96 to get through the firewall, but in the '98+ the pcm is wedged in there so dang tight and it pretty much blocks access to the hole in the firewall. All it involves is tapping into two wires, and a ground.
If you get the SLP manual fan switch it doesn't involve any tapping, you just unplug an existing 10-pin harness, plug the new connector into it, and plug the stock one into the back of the new one.

Ditto TheBeast. Runing the wire through the firewall is the most difficult part. Althought, in a 4th Gen., after you remove the computer, you simply remove the rubber gromet, put the new wire through it and replace the wires and gromet in the firewall. Another "challenge" is to find the right location for the fan control switch. I think the SLP fan switch is a quality product, a little pricey, but worth it.2001 Camaro M5 Coupe(1 of 2,737), no options, Whisper Lid, K&N Air Filter, Free Ram Air, MAFS Screen removed, SLP Manual Fan Switch, 160 thermo, DEE\'s T/B Spacer, EGR Block-off plate, IAT resistor, CAI to EGR air feed, B&M Ripper Shifter, SLP Replacement Grill, T/A Exhaust, SLP five spoke take-off wheels, BMR strut-tower brace, BMR Tunnel Brace, BMR 32/21 front & rear sway bars with poly, BMR Poly/Combo Rear Control Arms, Clear front & rear corners, HPP3 modified 87 Octane program.
http://www.cardomain.com/id/red2k1

You should just save the 60 bucks or whatever the ungodly amount was for some wires and a switch from slp. Dont get me wrong, slp makes great s**t and ive bought from them but the fan switch is an easy mod to do yourself. If you do a search on here you can find a link to the website with the directions. I did mine myself and im happy with it. And it was free, I had an extra switch and bookoos of wire laying around. Hope I'm saving someone some money. I popped my ashtray out and just have the switch mounted in there. I'm really thinking about mounting it in a visible location and get a lighted switch for it, because sometimes when its on low it is hard to remember to turn it off!

the slp switch kit is pretty nice though. looking at their catalog now, it looks like it has quality connectors and weatherpack for good electrical connections, looks pretty resistant to corrosion and excessive circuit resistance.
pricey? yes. but you do get a good quality part, according to the picture. looks like the slp may be more durable in the long run, than some "home-engineered" switches (depending on installers skill in automotive wiring).ASE Master, L1, X1, C1.
