  • The occasional misfire....

Let me start from the beging. I have been trying to get the DIS-4 to work in my car for a few months now. Whenever I have it engaged the car accelerates then studders shortly, then accelerates fine for a while and studders again. only under load. I have taken it in and out many times. Well... I have taken it out again and am running completely stock, Msd modules are completely out, stock coils directly on harness. I have noticed the occansional miss, with the Msd completely out of the car. Which has given me some hope and some fait the the DIS4. But whats the problem? I have brand new 8.5mm superconductor wires, stock plugs, and stock coils. I was guessing that it could be the stock coils are going out, and that they are worse with the msd engaged b/c they are so weak. I dont know, what could the problem be, I am goin crazy over this stupid setup?

    please help

I know you have new wires but check them anyway. 8.5 is quite a bit bigger then stock wires and 1 could have made contact with the exhaust manifold and melted through. I just had the same problem although I'm running stock ignition on a 3.4. I popped the hood and watched it idle and you could SEE the spark jumping from the exhaust mani. to the wire. Although the wire looked fine to the naked eye, i pulled it to check anyway and in snapped in half in my hands (it was nearly fried in half). is throttle response suffering too?? like when you rev your car in N, does it hesitate and feel like it's going to backfire or something?

When I take it out of gear and into nuetral it revs fine. It accelerates fine, then it will missfire, then accelerate fine. It does not do it very often, With the Dis 4 it did it more frequently.

i agree. i thought we had already established on this board that the msd is a waste of our money. all i can say is reSEARCH reSEARCH reSEARCH.
i too have the ocassional misfire under heavy load. i was told plugs-wires-coils-fuel injectors-o2 sensors and i think thats it. i to changed the plugs and wires and one coil next i will be loking at the o2 sensor. i wish you the best of luck though.

I bought the MSD like in January, since I spent the money Im goin to try and get it to work. But more imporant is getting the car runing right. And now my power passenger side window is going out. Car only has 29k on it and it is falling apart, makes noises left and right. EEhhh very aggrivating.

I wish! the car is a 98, so the warranty expired last november :( . I can take care of it though. Its wierd, it goes up about 3/4 of teh way, then stops. a few minutes later it works again and I can put it the rest of the way up. It initally moves about 3/4's of the way, up or down, then I have to wait and then finish the rest of the travel.

P.s. I hope my last post didnt give the impression I hate my car. I really like my car, it looks awsome( just washed it) , but the damn noises get on my nerves.

I tried the dielectric grease, and it did not help. Next I will try spark plugs. Which type/brand should I get? How do I know if my plugs are bad? They were all kinda black, some had a little brown I think, but I am sure there was some black on them. If that doesnt work then I try soem accel coils.

Here is what i would do personaly, if you know somebody with a scanner, have them hook your car up to it and drive it around. The scanner will tell you which cylinder is misfiring and when what throtle position, everything. I had this problem and they hooked it up and it diagnosed the problem perfectly. just a thought,

The saga ends!! No missfire. Pulled the plugs out, they were white. Put in the new +4's(Which I got for free) and the car runs better then ever. SO, the Msd, which I thought was the root of my problems, is going back on (even though contraversal, I spent the money and am going to put it back in). Im am extremely happy.

white spark plugs....isnt that a sign of a blown head gasket?
+4 is not a good choice. even though they were free i would still put something else in. ac delco or ngk would be my choice.
i bet more people than not have had trouble with +4 plugs.
