It seems like when I put too much load on the car it starts missing bad. When I got it it was missing and I changed the plugs and wires. I put 25k on it and it started doing the same thing. It got a little worse so I put new plugs in and took some practically new wires off my 4.3 s10. All 3 on the drivers side of the bird had cracks in them. But I put all the new wires on and fired it up and it still does the same thing but now it seems to be even worse. What else should I try? Coil packs? New wires? Fuel filter?

Went to autozone last night and took the coil packs with me. They tested all 3 and said they were all good. I put them back on and drove the car down today. The diagnostics test said missfire cylinder 5 and catalyst defficiency. I took the the cat out and replaced it with just some exhaust tubing a while back and the lights been on ever since for that. Well I bought bosch platinum 2 plugs and some 8mm wires and the car is acting the same as it did before. Only thing I can think of is either vacuum leak or sticky valve on cylinder 5. Im stumped. about ready to take it to a garage even though I dont want to but no one seems to know the answer. Anyone ever have any similar problems? If I push the brake in and give it gas itll just sputter. Seems like the only time it runs good is under little throttle between 2k and 3k.

I took it to a garage the other day. The diagnostics said that cylinder 5 missfired 30,000 times. He thought it sounded to him like either the cylinder 5 injector was bad, a bad coil pack but I told him I had all 3 tested, or the ignition control module. Well I took the number 5 plug wire off the plug and put a screw driver in there. I started the car and touched the screw driver to metal. I had a hold of the handle the whole time. Then I took another wire of a sepereate coil pack, put the number 5 wire there and put the screw driver in. when I grabbed ahold of the handle it shocked the hell out of me. Number 5 was definently sparking but maybe its to weak? Would the be a bad coil pack or could it still be the ignition control module. Also is there any nice aftermarket ignitions that are worth the price or should I just buy a new factory one if I need it?

I had a misfire and I even think it was #5 coil pack tested out fine but in the end that was the problem, swapped coils and it's been fine ever since, that was a year ago, you might want to just break down buy an ac delco coil swap it out and see what happens..
if you have already done new plugs and wires that might be your problem, I honestly doubt it's an injector or valve problem though it's possible..-Brad

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a combination of a bad fuel pump and a clogged fuel filter. Its worth it to get a full diagnosis from a certified mechanic, than those piece of **** code readers at autozone. They only tell you whats happening, not whats causing it.

Let me know how this turns out for you I am just coming into the same sounding problem. Took it back to the shop that did the diagnostic test for me. The same day he called and left a message and said it was done and hed set the bill and keys in it for me if I dint get there by time he closed. So I went back up and got it and the bill said 1 ignition contorl module and 1 used coil pack. Cost me $200 altogether and only $30 of it was labor. He also rerouted my plug wires a different way. It seems to run alot smoother and shift smoother then it ever has. The ignition control module was $150 but he said the list price was $212.
