  • 180 Therm - Does brand matter?

Which 180 therm should I get? Hypertech has one online for like $50. Is that any better than an autozone one for like 9 bucks? What is the difference?

Also, I was at autozone the other night and I saw about 10 different 180 Therms. Does anyone know the autozone part number for an 02 3.8 Camaro? I don't want to buy the wrong one. If someone could give me a link to one I could purchase online that would be good too.

if it helps i believe the stant superstat 180* is 59848 (that's for the 3.8l). that's what i am currently running. its not $50, but it seems to do the job.

Don't pay $50 for a thermostat. Maybe $15 at the most I would think.

Autozone had two listed when I went. The better one was brass, cost a couple dollars more, it will last a lot longer. Even the brass one was only about $6.

How would I tell? Nothing on the packaging. Never heard of it before...

BigED, the Autozone part number for the Robertshaw Generation2 thermostat is GT751-180. It comes with a life-time warranty -- for what ever that's worth.

I think what you speak of whn you say a "fail-safe" is a Reverse Poppet t-stat. It has a little button type thing, and if the pressure is too high and it can't open, some pressure will be releaved through a small pin looking thing instead (I think that's the poppet).
