  • Manual Fan Switch Install

I did a search for directions how to do this and found this link:

    http://web.nmsu.edu/~shanemar/camaro...fanswitch.html

However, the link doesn't work. Does anyone have a current link to these instructions?

      Thanks for the link!

Maybe I will just buy the one from SLP. Not very electrical wiring inclined. Hmm...plus my car is still under warranty.

Man don't spend 70 bucks on the SLP switch. You'll still have to do the same thing, only differences is you pay 70 bucks for the parts instead of 12. Its easy as can be, no lie. Check out this thread, I did it in about 30 minutes and I know nothing about wiring. The link in there tells you the exact parts and part #s to get from radio shack.

Thanks for that link v6maroFl! I may try to tackle it then. $12 bucks instead of $70 plus shipping does sound good. Plus I have some friends that can help.

          Thanks!

The instructions that this link point to say he mounted the switch next to his SGS/ASR switch. Does anyone of pictures of this so I can see how they did it?

Or maybe some pictures of other places to install the switch?

I put mine in a couple of weeks ago. I mounted it inside the ash tray. I pulled out the black dish part of it and drilled a hole in the bottom of it. The switch fit perfectly for the dish and it is hidden. I didn't like the idea of drilling on a visible plate just in case it didn't work. I don't have any pics, still don't have a camera, i'll try asking a few friends if I could borrow one. Hope this helps.

Yeah I don't really like the idea of drilling somewhere visible too. Exactly why I was asking. If you could get pictures that would be great!

I did some searching at google and found one guy that put his switch on his Camaro SS on the left side of the console where the cig lighter is. So only the driver can see it.

I will experiment with a few locations.

I have a switch mounted in the small compartment that's to the left of the cig. lighter, behind the shifter ... I took a scrap piece of thin sheet metal, cut it so that it would fill the entire compartment opening, and left some flaps that I bent back in order to hold the piece in. Drilled a hole to mount the switch, painted the piece flat black, and pushed it into place ... There are bracket holes in the top of the compartment cup to feed the wires down through, so you don't have to drill any holes in your console pieces.

There are pics on my website. My switch is hidden down by my right leg on the side portion where the cigg lighter is. I wanted to be inconspicious. Also, the guy that installed my switch just used a 3 prong, double throw, center off switch. He wired up a diode from an old amp to make the high and low function correctly.

Yeah your car is the one I was talking about in my earlier post! Found it with google. Obviously you don't have an SS, I had looked at a whole bunch of Camaro's earlier and guess I just got confused as to which car had the manual fan switch down on the console.

I think I like your location the best. Might try putting mine there. good2bking has a good idea too, but I use that little compartment so not sure i want to put my fan switch there.

southalabama97 - Do you have an auto or manual? If you have an auto I would really appreciate if you could borrow a camera and take a picture where it's mounted, and also what kind and where you got your switch. I mounted mine there and I can't get it to work right, thanks.

I have an automatic. The switch is from Radio Shack. I'm not sure what kind but it is a three prong on-off-on switch. It is about 2 inches tall. It looks like the one in your link but it doesn't have the part between the nut and the rectangle part that goes underneath. The nut nearly sits on the top of the rectangle part. I talk to a buddy of mine and should be able to borrow his camera. I should have some pics. sometime next week. I will post them as soon as I get them.
