• Installed: Hypertech Powerstat 160º Thermostat

Thanks Cardinal before I continue :D

The install was VERY straightforward, took maybe a total of 30-40 minutes to complete. I'm hoping to see some lower operating temperatures by the end of the day - I have a bit of driving to do later!
One thing that snagged my install was trying to save the gasket around the thermo. The moment I took the bellhousing off the thermo I ripped the damn gasket in two!! But I suppose I would rather have had a new one there anyway!

I give the 160 degree thermo

    ...for now :D

This is such a simple mod. I wish somebody else would have PCM problems so they can tell me how to fix mine. With my 160 stat installed, I lost the engine temperature, cooling fans were constantly running, and the dreaded SES light. Put the stock in, everything went away in 20 miles.

    Suggestions?

Had the same problem when I first installed mine.As soon as I turned on the car the fans turned on and the SES light came on. I said "oh S**T they were right" until I noticed I forgot to click back in the engine temp sensor. plugged it in and the probs went away.

This happened to me, and it was not due to the thermostat change. My thermocouple on the radiator went bad for the driver's console and GM replaced mine for free. It has been fine ever since.

The part no. is 1009 like triad stated. It cost me $12.99. They'll most likely have to order it.

I've had mine in for over 2 years now, w/ no problems. Works great inconjunction w/ the slp fan control switch.

I guess to clarify, I put mine in. About 3 days later the SES light came on and everything got freaked up. The GM guy is saying that every car could have a different low engine temperature setpoint that sets this stuff off. (If the engine temperature is below 195(?), then SES) My engine was definitely running cooler, but by only 15 degrees. So I took the damn thing back out. 2 miles later my engine temperature came back. 20 miles later the SES light went out. One guy recommended to pull the 50 A IGN and the 15 A IGN fuses to reset the PCM. That didn;t work.

So, when it gets nice again, I am going to try again. Maybe drive the car a little more.
