Let me tell you what I've been doing these last few days....
Last Thursday, I took my car to Hypertech so they can use it to fine tune their Hypertech Power Programmer III for the 2000 model 3.8L V6 F-Body.
Today, Matt (Amped96) and I went to Hypertech to check out the progress of their tuning on my car. They ran 3 stock programmed ECM dyno pulls and with the 3 runs logged, I averaged 184.7 RWHP and 212.4 RWTQ. See dyno sheet here... http://wtfba.hispeed.com/stuff/stock_dyno.jpg
Then they put in their Hypertech chip into their opened ECM and pulled 2 more runs. I averaged 190.7 RWHP and 223.6 RWTQ. See the two dyno sheets here... http://wtfba.hispeed.com/stuff/power_dyno1.jpg and http://wtfba.hispeed.com/stuff/power_dyno2.jpg
With the dyno program, they can pinpoint exact points on the chart. I was seeing gains up to 11 RWHP and 15 RWTQ throughout the range!!! The average gain was 6.0 RWHP and 11.2 RWTQ! Not too shabby! ;)
The Power Tuning was set for 93 octane and I've been running 87. I had 1/2 tank of 87 octane in the tank and they put 93 in the tank and run it down a little. I figure by the time the car is flushed with 93 octane, it should gain another horsey or three! :D
They're going to spend the next few days eliminating the knock retard between 1400 RPMs and 2300 RPMs, completing the 93 Octane Power Tuning, and then they're going to work on the 87 Octane Power Tuning. They're also having trouble finding the top speed limiter (location is different from the 2001 model) but should have it solved by Thursday.
So far, everything seems to be going well. I'm looking forward to seeing some good gains from the HPP3 and the benefits of the Power Tuning, Fan temp control, speed limiter, and rev limiter. Overall time with the programmer should net higher gains after the programmed ECM gets used to the fuel trims and other sensors.
I'll keep everyone up-to-date on the progress of the Hypertech Power Programmer 3! I plan to attend the Beech Bend Bash III (with the Programmer), October 27, to get some stock ECM track times and Power Tuned ECM times.
Meanwhile.... they've supplied me with a 2001 Chevy Silverado 5300 Vortec (5.3L V8)! I've had a lot of fun driving it around, leaving dual rubber strips, and barking 2nd gear quite often! ;) :D
