I put on the MSD coils and aside from maybe a smoother idle, I really couldn't tell a difference. I think that $100 would be better spent on a high-flow cat or towards a set of headers, anything but the coils. Unless one goes out I wouldn't bother replacing them.
well when i install my cam i will need a better ignition system to help me pass smog. if you had a smoother idle that means it probably burned the fuel more completely, in which case the coils will work. however since the summit coils are cheaper and have the same voltage, i might get those instead. or am i going to need the dis-4?

You could do your upgrades and leave the ignition stock, then try an emissions test and see where you are. Then you'll know if you need to upgrade the coils and/or DIS-4.
josh said his coils blew up. but yeah i'm going to smog test it after i install the cam to see if i even need to upgrade the ignition, but eventually i want to get some 19 lb fuel injectors, and then i might want to upgrade the ignition so i'm just trying to see whether i should get summit coils over the msd.

Stock coils and wires for me. The only thing MSD going on my car is the DIS-4. The stock coils are very powerful and reliable. 104k on mine and no problems yet, knock on wood.
That is a good site to keep. I was ridiculed on fbody.com when someone asked if they should go with a hotter coil pack and larger wires. I wrote that it wouldn't make any difference to a car what-so-ever unless they were running N20 or a supercharger. I never thought of a larger cam, but I guess a hotter spark could benefit from that too.
