Redline oil...

A friend was telling me Redline is the 'only pure synthetic'. It was better than Royal Purple and everything else. What are your guys opinions of this?

My brother is a petrochemical Engineer,asked him about this topic.He said only a few companies make their own additives to put in synthetic oil.I'll find out if R/L is one of them.But he feels & many others concur that Mobil1 is the primo product.It is what they call a Polyalpha-olefin based synthetic,believed by many to be superior to the other type,Hydro-Isomrized syn.It is a true synthetic by the first company that introduced syn. to the American market,about 30 years ago.So they have a ton of experience at this technology.The people who make Lubegard,the best additives in the world,agree with this.they too feel PAO's are the best synthetic oils.

I know most companys used additives. Royal Purple uses Synerlec®. And thus far the main problem people have with Royal is that it runs too thin. Majority of the LS1 guys hate it for that reason. I'm considering upgrading to Redline for just the better feel.

Castrol was one of the first to switch to Hydro- Isomerized synthetic.You can read current labels of Castrol & I believe Mobil sued them for their "Molecular Bonding" claim, now they don't claim that.Take it for whats its worth,like I said not my opinion ,but the beliefs of a few chemical & petrochemical engineers I spoke with ,including one who worked on developing Mobil1.He now is the one who heads the research department at Lubegard corp.,he told me that he felt Mobil1 was the most supperior product,becuase it is one of the few PAO's out there & its long standing & contunously being improved.I'm sure R/L & amzoil are good products,but don't know if they're PAO's.Suprsyn Mobil1 came packed in my C5 & GM recomends it,its right on the oil filler cap.

I think though if you stick with an oil that meets GM spec 4718M,the Corvette specification,you'll be OK.BTW Hydro-Isomerized oils are cheeper to produce thats why a lot of co. switched to it.

If you really plan to thrash your engine to the max,I would recommend the new Mobil1 racing oil, but it sure as hell isn't cheep 7$ a quart or so!

I use it....they say you can use it upto 15K miles if you have a good filter. I don't use it that long but I don't use anything else.

Just talked to a chemical engineer he said R/L probably does not make their own additives & its niether a PAO-esther syn,like Mobil1,& not a Hydro-Isomerized one like Castrol ,but a oleo? type I believe.It does'nt really matter they probably buy their components from good sources & use it as a proprietary blend.Says its good stuff to but in his professional view, not better than Mobil1.If you don't believe me ask the good people at [URL=http://www.Lubegard] .com,they can give their input,& you can ask them for a brochere on their products if you wish.I always like to have some sort of actual proof,not just a blind opinion.
