  • Motorsaver pre oiler?

    http://www.motorsaver.us/

What do you guys think about this gizmo? I am thinking about getting one for my engine. They aren't really expensive, and my poor bearings need all the help they can get.

    Looks like a gimmick.

Isn't a good oil filter supposed to perform this function? (have a valve that prevents all the oil from draining back down into the pan when the engine is turned off)

I think this is a good idea and that it actually works. It was on Motorweek way back in the early 90s. They were talking about it and how you just leave the key on on, like if you were priming, for a couple of secs so that it will lube the cylinder before you start. So when it actually does start, lubrication is already there, thus cutting down on engine wear. It's been said time and again, mostly from Slick50 (remember them? lol), that UP TO 90% of all engine can occur from a cold starting motor due to lack of lubrication on the cylinder walls. So the rings are going up and down for a couple of secs before it starts getting lube. Slick 50 was SUPPOSED to stay on the walls when you turn the motor off, therefor it will provide lube at start up. A Motor Trend article once said that simly starting up your car on a cold night and moving it from the street to the driveway is equivalent to driving about 500 miles. Which is why it's a good idea to keep the motor idling if you are waiting for someone for a few minutes.
