gas smell and funny sound at mid rpms

First time here so think this is the proper place for this. I have a 94 3.4l firebird and have 2 question that i have been pulling my hair out trying to fix.


1.I get a very strong gas smell inside the car after filling up. the smell is only noticable when i fill the tank full. i have check all lines and the top of tank (the best i could with tank still in the car) but can not find any leaks. so any one got any ideas or tips on how to fix this problem.
and

2. When my car is running with the ac on and i hit 2,500 rpm my car sounds like it has a small Turbo/SC in it. now i did just fill my freon to specs for the abient temp of 85 degrees which is 45-50psi low side and around 225-250 psi high side. so does anyone els have this noticable whiiiiiirrrr noise when there ac is on.

If you are overfilling your tank you may have fuel going into the carbon filter behind the DS rear wheel. Do you smell gas in the engine compartment or inside the car after running it? If so that is another sign of a bad carbon thingy (I think it is a condenser for the fuel). I had a strong fuel smell in my garage adfter driving the car and also after fill up, I replaced the canister and the problem went away.

Second, the whirr maybe either your belt slipping, check your autotensioner, ours are known to go bad, check the compressor or your air intake...if you needed to replace the freon, you may have a leak...

Good luck...you can always install a SC to hide the noise

The gas smell can be smelled from outside faintly but is really strong on the inside of the car. i notice it alot after drivering around and if i make fast turns the smell gets stronger. I'll take look at that canister and see if there would be any way the smell is coming from that and coming into the car. Also there is no fuel smell in the engine compartment just inside the car and faintly outside.

the ac had to be filled cause i had the dealer install a new engine 3 years ago and the tech messed up everything that delt with ac (smashed wires.burnt wires,). I think they just got mad at me for the few choice words when i made them fix the wireing and they said the ac still did not work and the pump was bad. but think they evac the system and i just got the time (unemployed at the moment) to fix it and found more wires and the system empty. i could not find no leaks as i just went out and took a pressure test and it is stil at 45 psi low side and 250 high side. thanks

Is the smell constant? You may have a leak in your tank, the gas may be pooling somewhere, if you smell it more on hard corners (right or left make a difference) can give you hint as to where the hole is.....if the smell increase with a right ahd turn and hard accel-look left rear, if it smells more on acc-look in the back.....if braking increases smel....you get the point right?

I have the same problem with my car too. I have no idea what it is, but I'll try replacing the canister. For a temporary fix, I just stopped filling the tank all the way.

CARdiac - it is only constent if i have a full tank. don't matter which way i turn right left same increase in smell.

And today while i was trying to pull out my mangeld 2 piece shaft and install my one piece. I did take a look at the canaster and is was damp with gas and sounded like there was some in it so i am going to get a new one tomorrow
