  • sounds stupid but...

i want to replace my spark plugs, so i looked for them and it looks like they would be a b1tch to get to. why is half the engine underneath the dashboard? you think they could have moved the engine a little forward, no?

would i need to get at them from underneath? i couldnt even spot where they would be... i searched for something of a diagram or something but either its so easy to do, instructions arent needed (and im an idiot) or.. something else, i dunno. but if anyone has insructions on how to change spark plugs (preferrably with pictures) or wants to explain it that would be awesome. help!

    mike

you should be able to get to all of the spark plugs from the top except for the passenger side back one. that one you will have to get under the car for. jusst follow the plug wire down to the head and you will find the plug. You should look into headers. headers make changing spark plugs so much easier.

you could always swap the engine into a third gen and not have to deal w/all that drama to change plugs ;)

I think it's easiest to do them from underneath the car... I found that the passenger side plug are easiest if you take the socket (that has the end like a bolt) and put it on the plug then take a wrench and do it that way... The driver side is much easier. Just make sure to do them one at a time so you don't get the wires confused. Since it's your first time it may take you alil while but it's pretty easy.

is that really true? if so, how much HP will I gain? does anybody own these wires?

also timmy, i see the wires and i see the plugs now, but they are still way down and difficult, near imposible to reach. is it worth the money to have someone else do it?

first time I did it, took me and a friend 4 and a half hours. Make sure you have a full socket set, lots of extensions and u-joints are a plus. Just be patient, and it will save a lot of money. A friend had his camaro changed at a shop and they charged him 500 bucks, just for labor. I thought that was high until I tried to price it at several spots, it seems no one likes to work on f-bodies. But they are fun to drive.

surprised me too, but then again, I was under the car most of the time, except for running the plug wires. So time went by fairly well

the v6 engine is two cylinders shorter than the v8, but the driveshaft/transmission is the same length. took me about 4 hours by myself (plugs and wires) the first time. 4 you get from below and 2 you get from above.

the hardest are the passenger side rear. there isnt much space available with the exhaust et al.

                  you will learn patience.

You won't notice any gain and you don't even need anything better than stock until you're running nitrous or a supercharger. The stock plugs, wires, and coils are plenty good.

I got them all from above, with the help of my Asian friend who's got small gurly hands. It took us about 2 hours to get both sparks plugs and wires. Hardest ones are the ones on the passenger side but he had a bunch of extensions and we got it that way, otherwise i would've been payin' $200+ for labor.

yeah, i also got them all off from above, they were a pain in the @ss though, took about 2hrs tops for me and my dad. I actually thought that the driver side was harder cause the fuel lines get in your way really bad

First time i did them on the 3.8 it took me about 2 hours, now its like a half hour or so, really not that bad, get a spark plug wrench, and a 3/8 rubber hose to grip the plug should make taking them out and installation a breeze

its quite a bit easier if you have tubular exhaust manifolds (2000+ i think) or headers.
