i know it's a vaccum hose, but i dont know what for. in that picture, it is undamaged, but since then my idler pulley was fried and my serpentine belt came off. whatever happened along with it made this hose come off, and the plastic part that is circled was cracked on the side, thus stopping the whole vaccum thing. any help is appriciated.

the tube looks like it's part of the emissions system. THe vapors form the evap canister & all that. letting the fumes get sucked into the intake instead of venting to teh atmosphere. The round thing, is the IAC valve according to the holy book haynes.

the evap line on a 3.4 is one of the three fuel lines...it runs to the bracket on the side of the manifold.

That is the same vacuum line that cracked on my engine and it threw a p0441/p1441 SES code. The line is plastic and cracks with ease making a vacuum leak in the evap system. I replaced it with a rubber hose, and haven't had any problems since.

how important is this piece to the car? what does it do?

what does that mean? why would you want "fumes" to go into the intake? is it a smog thing?

It recycles the fumes that didn't get burned up, ultimately keeping the fumes out of the atmosphere and giving you slightly better gas mileage...I think

correct, Plus also on all OBDII systmes, 96 and newer cars, the evap system is part of the OBD system and is vital for the car to pass inspecion. If there is a leak in the system some where the check engine light will come on. My advice is to get it fixed asap. The longer you let it go the bigger the problem will become later on.
