  • * Fuel Pump * Need Help

My sister has a 96' Camaro, and her fuel pump just went out. She was quoted $500 for parts and $300 for labor. The car has 160K on the clock and my sister does not want to put this kind of $ into the car. Is there a direct replacement after market pump available for this car? She can handle the $300 labor but $500 for parts is pretty high. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i think the parts are around 300 actually, and thats from a dealership. go to a pontiac dealership and pretend you want to buy one, lol. write down the part number, then go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and they sell prices normally 40-50% cheaper than a dealer would, maybe you could get it for like 175-200?

pricy. autozone lists two fuel pumps:

        master (lifetime warranty) $320
        ac-delco (1yr warranty) $254

labor is really the killer on this job (for almost all vehicles). some people (search in advanced) have cut an access panel in the rear hatch area to make this job easier.

I just had mine done a month ago. They charged me $345 for an aftermarket pump (name brand unknown) and $230 for labor. Total was $625 out the door. You might want to call around and get a better part price, and labor price for that matter. The guy called 3 places for the pump, and the prices ranged from the $345 all the way to $480.
