  • Replacing Starter

Ive got a 98 camaro and need to replace the starter on it. Does anyone have any tips or websites to help me out with this? I did a search, but nothing really helpful came up. From what I've heard, the starter is on the driver's side on the bottom. Is that correct? Thanks in advance.

Correct...there is a thick metal shield covering it...its directly in front of the tranny....the y pipe may be covering it so much as so you can't get it off.

Awesome pages, thanks a lot. I hope I can actually replace this thing myself. Everyone wants like $110+ for an install..

for future reference for anyone with a 3.4l who wants to replace their starter (i haven't seen any topics on it and its a real ***** so sorry for going off topic):

the best way to take it out is to first unscrew everything and disconnect the wires. Since there is no god damn room to pull it out of anywhere, you have to take out the motor mount bolts or whatever they are called and then jack up the motor a bit, you should be able to pull the starter out from the front side of the car.

sorry for going a bit off topic but when i had to do this and searched the board all i could find was someone talking about having to take off their exhaust manifolds or bending pipes or something ridiculous like that.
