  • SES lilght ... lost engine temperature

This is an interesting one. I recently added a 160 stat and some redline water wetter to the resevoir (it is probably still in there, I didn't get a chance to mix the resevoir with the radiator). When I was driving around yesterday on Easter, I lost my engine temperature (gauge at zero). 1) any suggestions? 2) where is the temp measurement? 3) Any reason why pontiac would complain since the car is still under warranty?

    Thanks

THIS HAPPENED TO ME!!! But I know how to fix it!!! You are in Luck... There is nothing wrong... All it is, is that your computer opeded your system, and the sending unit and sensor are turned off.. your fans are probably going all the time too... Well all you have to do is do a full reset of the computer, when the computer is restored, it will regognize the 160 as stock so the gauge will work and the temp will be about 180... turn key to the last position before your you car turns over, find your PCM BAT and PCM IGN fuses.. should be under the hood I believe.. Pull the big 50amp PCM fuse, then pull the PCM ign, which should be 15amp. Wait a few minutes, you might hear a click as everything resets and the trunk might pop. As soon as this happens turn the key off then put the fuses back in and start the car. Let it get to temp before you drive it! Your computer will have to re-learn everything so when you drive it it will be a bit rough, but go slow for a few minutes then get it through the gears. after 10-20 miles it should go back to normal.. Hope this works as well as it did for me. Let us know how it went!

Do I have to pull the fuse or can I just disconnect the negative on the battery?

And, do you know why it happened?

        Thanks a bunch

And I don;t know if it is possible, but if you plan on getting an HPP3, I would be interested in splitting or something.

unless it works for you by pulling the battery you need to do the fuses.. i tried leaving the battery undone for a weekend while i was out of town and I got back... no help.. the fuses are they way to do it, it clears everything...

first attempt failed ... so now I am going to let the car sit without the fuses over dinner.

okay, I know I am being annoying ... but here goes.

It looks like we have the same car. I have a 50A IGN fuse (pulled) and a 15A PCM IGN fuse (pulled). I have a 10A PCM BAT in the other fuse box. (didn;t touch)

These are the steps, make sure the ke is in theright place.. I might have told you wrong earlier... If I did, sorry.. But this is what I did:
1.Turn key to the "on" position but don't start car
                  2. Pull the PCM BAT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment
                  3. Wait approximately 5 minutes
                  4. Turn ignition off
                  5. Replace fuses
                  6. Start the car
I am pretty sure you need to pull the 50amp first

Anyone else? There are a lot of v6 F-bodies with 160 stats in them. Pewter's advice hasn;t worked yet? Anybody know another way of clearing the PCM?
