There is a distinctive whine sound coming from my alternator. At idle it is a soft sound but as the rpm's rise, the noise gets louder. My belt has tiny little cracks in it I might replace that. How do I know when to replace it? It isnt all dirty and cruddy yet it just has tiny little cracks (very small) like every inch or so of the belt. I tried spraying my alternator with a little WD-40 but that didnt do much to stop the whine. Is it better to replace the alternator or to have it rebuilt? Any prices? Thanks...

I'd replace the belt anyway. It's a ***** if it breaks while you're driving. Try spraying the alternator with WD-40, see if that helps.- JT3<br />1998 Red V6 Camaro Y87 Y3F - J.E.T.
