Do it yourself. I don't trust Wal-Mart for more then windshield washer fluid and wipers. I would also recommend WIX oil and airfilters. While your at walmart pick up a set of $20.00 Rhino ramps so you can just drive your car up on them and not have to worry about jackstands.
i thought everyone on hear changed their own oil
why would neone want to take their car to walmart when its sooo easy to change yourself. plus you never know if the shop is ripping u off for ex. ive heard stories of those "quick lube" places charging you for "synthetic" and putting in the cheapest oil they have also that sometimes they dont even change the oil filter
Just change it yourself. It's so easy to do and you'll know it's done right. (assuming you do it right, not that you can really mess it up) It takes me about 20 minutes in all to do. I also use K&N oil filters. They are more expensive, but I really like them.
I can understand people when they say they take it to a shop to get it done. Some people don't have the tools, time, and know-how to change oil. But...for those of us who do know how to change it and have the tools to do so, it's a complete waste of money to take it to a shop. It's also just plain lazy to do that too.
Also don't forget that MOST parts stores will change your qiper blades for you for free if you buy them from their store too...no need to go to WalMart for ANYTHING except for food here and there, and maybe a few other items.

my chevy dealership cost me 20 buckaroos for mobil one and (can't remember what filter), top pff all fluids.. i am too lazy to spend almost same amount of money ti do it my self
Ummad!<br />2k pewter maro M5. 160 thermo, WhisperLid w/K&N Filter, Jet PCM Stage 2, Free Ram Air, Air Silencer Delete (purchased already and) waiting to install manual fan switch, air/fuel ratio guage.
I don't want to switch to synthetic just yet because if I get a mysterious oil leak out of nowere... I'm screwed. I know the leak was probably already there but I'm to broke to take that chance at the moment... Is regular Mobil oil better than Castrol? I don't know of ANY autoparts stores in my area that will change my oil... Autozone and Advanced don't anyway... Walmart does it for like 18 bucks thats why I get it done from them. What tools would I need to change the oil myself and how do I drain it? just take off the filter? or is there a drain plug?
btw I thought our 3.8's only took 3 qut's of oil... PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong...

Hate to question this...but no dealership in their right mind would give you that price for a MobilOne(which is synthetic of course) and filter change. It costs the dealer more than that to change it in filter/fluid alone...then add in the labor...
They normally will charge about $20 for a regular Mobil oil change, but this is definitely not synthetic! If they told you Mobil 1, you got took.

I'd do it yourself... the 3.8L has to be one of the easiest cars in the world to change oil... If oyu can find a low profile drain pan, you probably woudl not even have to jack the car up.
As for tools, just buy an oil filter wrench and everyone shouod have at least a socket set. Pick one up at Lowes, you can get a nice Task Force one for $17, really good quality for the price.
As for those of you who take yours in for an oil change, before you take it in, key up your oil filter, so you know if they changed it or not.
All that said I get my oil changed at the dealership, but thats only because its free, till 100k on my car.

I've never changed the oil on my 'Bird myself... reason: I get it done for free at the dealership I bought the car at. They give you a big *** booklet of coupons for free changes and such. They also gave me $10 for gas when I drove my car off the lot because it was getting low haha. They really know how to treat people there.
Yeah when I bought my car from Beck & Masten in Houston Texas they filled the tank up and gave me the same book of coupons that you have. To bad I don't live in Houston to take advantage of them.
