  • Factory alarm went nuts...Need advice!

Last night, all of a sudden, my factory alarm starting going off 5 seconds after arming it for no reason at all. It arms fine, I stand there, and it starts honking and flashing. If I hit the panic button, it stops for 5 more seconds, then starts again! I have not messed wtih the shock sensor lately, and I have it adjusted properly. I did that 2 or 3 years ago. I searched and found this...

All I can think of is that the shock sensor has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I suppose I can unplug it and see if that works to narrow it down. Otherwise, I am lost and annoyed with this car!!!

Yes that sounds like the probable cause of it going off after you arm it. I would just do what that other thread reccomends and disconnect it or even adjust it at first to see if it helps. I would imagine a replacement shock sensor would probably cost quite a bit from GM so you might even consider getting an aftermarket alarms system. Either way let us know what you did to fix it later in this thread.

Ok, yeah that seems like a good start. I found these over at ls1tech.com....

I'll try disconnecting it tonight and see what happens.

Have you tried "reflasing" the remote? It's quite simple. Sometimes the remote looses it's code and sends a bogus signal to the receiver.

All you have to do is hold the lock and unlock button at the same time for approx 5 seconds. The car will lock then unlock with a single horn tone. Volla...you've just "reflashed" your remote.

          I might try that too.

However, the problem magically stopped. It started two nights ago, and last night, before I could take it apart, it worked fine. It's been raining a ton here lately and yesterday was the first dry day. Maybe something got really wet...

Before you reprogram the remotes go ahead and put brand new batteries in them so you won't have to do the same thing again when they get low.

My alarm system did the same thing. When it senses a current draw, the alarm is set off; i.e, opening the door and the dome/interior lights go on(current draw). Mine was goin' off like crazy for no reason. Turns out, the glove box wasn't closing completely, and the glove box light would come on, setting it off. Just something else to consider.....

I did open and close the glove compartment when it was happening, no luck. I got some replies from ls1tech.com and most of them said their problems stemmed from moisture issues. Either the shock sensor, or the sensors in the doors that tell the alarm if they are open or not get wet and cause problems.

My list of things to do...

                1. Replace batteries and flash remotes. One of them is dead anyway so I might as well.

                2. If it happens again, check shock sensor and door sensors for moisture.

The only thing is, I couldn't find the door pins! Anybody know where they are? On my old GM they were easily visible in the door jamb area.
