  • More low end torque

What can I do to get some more low end torque?
I currently have 3.42 gears w/lsd, edelbrock exhaust, k&n filter, and lingenfelter cold air induction. I just had the 3.42 with lsd in hopes of being able to really put some low end into that car but it did not do it. I want something where when I step on it I will break the tires loose. Any suggestions? Cam maybe? Or something a little cheaper?

well it would help to know the year of the car but headers will give you more lowend depending on the year. Could always get a blower or nitrous.

My car is a 1997, I do have the restrictive manifolds but if anything headers I think actually lower backpressure to the engine and you lose low end torque that way while gaining high end power

In response to Pat, I have moded the intake, and moded the exhuast (excpt. cat converter, and headers) and I have not yet touched the ignition which I know MSD offers DIS 4, but I dont think that will give me the boost of power im looking for. More or less low-end torque.

get an aluminum DS. what rims & tires do you have? do you have TCS? if yes, turn it off.

Onyx, I have a TCS but I never have it on, I know for sure its off. You have any clue how much of a gain I would see with an alloy driveshaft?

An Aluminum Driveshaft will give you a little bit, but don't expect much, maybe 5 ft-lbs.

When it comes to low end torq, there's no replacement for displacement. An aluminum driveshaft will help some with it but will also smooth out the ride. If you shoot nitrous from a stop you might get one good pull before your engine blows so i'm going to have to contest against that suggestion ;)

stock stroke is 3.4 in., stock rod length is 5.750 in. have a custom stroker crank made w/ a 3.5 stroke & a 5.650 rod, or 3.6 in. stroke & a 5.550 rod. you may wanna look into buying L67 pistons because of the extra compresion you'll make. it'll cost a lot, but will give you more low end. you'll wanna get headers and 2.5 in. exhaust piping(stock is 2.25) just to keep the torque peak around the same rpm as before.

you still did not answer my question: what rims & tires do you have? i think the aluminum DS should be enough for what you want to accomplish. it did for me. but it may still depend on how wide and sticky your tires are.

i think you know this but i'll just say it anyway: TCS always comes on everytime you start the car.

get the 1le driveshaft, like they already said, and maybe a torque convertor.... if you don't do lots of highway driving, you oculd look into 3.73's.

14" rims should light up real good. will also let you scoot qiucker, but make you red line faster & hurt top speed.

                          edit: try a line lock.

Onyx, I have 245/50-16 Bridgestone Potenzas, I think I may look into a torque converter once I know a little more about them, I just had the 3.42 w/LSD put in the other day, and I probably will go with the alloy driveshaft. Thanks everyone for the help it is really appreciated
