• Battery terminal is corroded like a mofo! CAN'T GET BOLT OFF!

If you read from my recent thread, it turns out that my battery is going bad. Big deal, easy to replace. Well, the positive battery terminal is incredibly corroded, and in trying to get the bolt off we've stripped the bolt! I tried WD-40 and then vice grips, but it still will not turn! Is there anything else I can do other than taking a hacksaw to that bolt??

Cut it off at the bottom of the + terminal right where the cable starts, and splice a new one on. You may want to replace the all the cables for self assurance.

Or you could use a pipe wrench. They work on anything, trust me I'm a plumber.

coke works, and so does a little baking soda mixed with water... liquid wrench for corroded terminals. just don't splash it all over the place risk and crossing your poles.

How did you strip the bolt? Thats takes years of practice and lots of work to accomplish...

Side post terminals are easy to replace, just cut it and carefully splice a new one on. They also sell anti corrosion spray to, you could spray it down for future protection.

Use WD-40 like you already done, just let it sit for a while then do what Bob recommended, use a pipe wrench. Even thought you cut the cable off you still have to get the bolt off so why not just start w/ the hardest task. I've used electronic parts cleaner and it "sometimes" works in these tuff situations. You can always use Xtralarge vice grips too. Later
