• Oil Leak

I have an oil leak! The car smells sometimes when i turn it off, and BOY DOES IT SMELL! Sometimes its not too bad though. Anyway, I took it to the auto craft shop here on my army base where they looked at it for free. The guy told me in order to fix this leak, that I'd have to take off a whole lot of stuff, and he recommended pouring this oil leak sealant type stuff into my oil when i do the next oil change. The car has 94,000 miles. Anybody know about this product and if it works?

Valve cover gasket? That oil crap couldn't hurt. It causes your gaskets to swell to fill the gap. On a car with that many miles, I'll bet lots of gaskets are leaking.

nonsense. 94,000 miles doesnt mean you should be leaking oil. if you use the oil leak sealant you will probably need to keep using at each oil change or the gaskets/seals will shrink and you will have an oil leak again.

      where is it leaking?

i think its on the rear seal of the oil pan. i'd have drop the whole thing, not to mention everything covering it now.

Maybe it's the rear main seal.

I have oil leak too, I have 75,000 though.
Leak is not bad yet, so what I do is just check engine oil level regularly and add more oil when needed.

I need to change it also when I have more leak or sell my car.
It's cheaper to change rear main seal when you change your clutch. (If you have manual transmission.)

I'm at 40K and I have the rear main leak also.....maybe if we can get enough people with 98+ 3.8s with rear main leaks, we can get Chevy to replace them.

I have the lovely NBM/gravel dust colored Camaro with the brake dust red over gray front wheels :D . I drive my car too many miles to wash it every week, it always ends looking like it did within a couple of days.

I also had an oil leak. I know this doesn't sound quite right, but my CAT was plugged up at about 75k. When I got it changed (still under warranty, cost me nothing), it stopped leaking! I dunno if the back-pressure was causing it to squirt out or what, but I haven't had problems since!

I have a 3.8 and the pan leaks. Jack the car up and put it on jack stands. Get under it with a can of braklean and clean off all of the oil. Start the car and let it run a few minutes and look underneath. Where is the oil coming from? By the way you say you car smells when you get out of it, it sounds like my problem, the back of the oil pan gasket is leaking and it drips directly on and exhaust pipe.
