  • How much oil does a 3.4 hold?

My car never leaked but maybe 3 drops over night since iv had it.... not enough to do anything.. Everytime i change my oil, i can never remember if it takes 4 or 5 quarts and i dont remember what i have bought b4....I got 5 quarts this time and now i notice a leak in it after sitting at night... a puddle on the ground about the side of 2 quarters ( yes $$ ) on the ground.....

Did i fill it up too much and that ismaking it leak out?
I havnt had enogh time to look for it and find out where its coming from ...

5 quarts, and that's way to much to be leaking. I'd guess its the filter or plug.

I think the amount is 4.7 quarts, I usually have to look it up every time.

I would not worry to much maybe tightent your oil filter a little, and if it has oil on it may have a leak at the oil pressure sending unit.

Manual says 4 quarts (4.5 with filter change)

That's exactly what it says. Always change the filter when changing oil though. And 4 quarts is enough, even with a new filter. I always use 4 quarts and the level is right in the middle of the hatch marks.

I doubt that it is leaking because it was overfilled. Most likely valve cover gasket is leaking or worst case, a main seal.

Where the hell are some of you getting 5 quarts from as the factory #?

The OFFICIAL GM MANUAL says 4.5 quarts with a filter change. That is when using the factory reccommended oil filter size (AC Delco PN PF47)

I, however, use a bigger oil filter (Delco PN PF52). This longer filter fits in just fine (3.8s can use this too), and with a bigger filter, it allows us to use a full 5 quarts of oil.

So with my bigger filter, I use 5 qts.
