• Hypertech Power Programmer

Hypertech's Power Programmer allows you to get rid of the rev limiter. My question is this: Wouldn't that do harm to the engine to be running it at 6500 rpms or higher? (above redline).. Just curious. Hypertech also says that "The stock computer is programmed to shut down the engine when it reaches the redline." This has never happened to me
Another thing.. For the 1997 3.8 L Camaro (and all other applicable models) What is the redline 5500 or 6000?

The HPP3 allows you to adjust the rev limiter in 100 RPM increments up to a limit of 6500 or 6600 RPM. This can be useful since using the HPP3 changes the engine's programing and to maximize the new programing you can squeeze a few extra RPM from the engine. It is not unusual for the factory to rate engines somewhat on the conservative side so a few extra revs are not necessairly damaging. However, I don't think it is a good idea to run an engine at the top of its RPM range all the time.

I here that we should be able to go up to 6200rpm safely with the stock springs. I wouldn't go over 6100 myself.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with a 3.8l out of the car, peak power is at 5200, with it in attached to the tranny, etc... i'm guessing it would be about 4800...

What is the benefit of getting the engine above 6000? Unless you have really nicely ported heads, I don't think that a 3.8l could breath enough to produce good power at those rpms...

Even with the super six power pack, max power is at 5700...

And you know this because you have the powerpack and have tested it?

5700 is when the a4 changes gears when you floor it

Im pretty sure that with a bigger cam it takes your peak power up in the rpms so if you dont go above 5200 after you get a bigger cam then you wont reach your peak power, i think the bigger the cam the higher it raises your peak power in the rpms

doesn't matter what tranny you have, peak power is STILL at 5200 rpm. and that fluctuates with mods...IE, exhaust will move the power band up in the RPM range, but i'm not sure by how much. and sometimes it's beneficial to run it past power peak, so you can get as close to 4000 rpm for the next shift...IE the 2-3 shift...if i shift at 5200, that lands me back at like 3500 or 3600 for third gear...not good at all. see what i mean?
