idle at 2000 rpms. turn car off & on then its normal???

my car idles at 2000 rpms after it warms up and there are no codes being thrown. when i am driving it wants to idle at 2000 rpms i catch myself speeding slightly because of this.

if i pull over and put it in park it stays at 2000 rpms. taping the gas doesnt do anything.
if i turn my car off then back on it idles like normal again.

Defective IAC (idle air control) valve. Autozone has them for about $30.

And the IAC is located where?

if i knew what side (pass or driver) and how many wires i would be able to figure it out.

IAC - its on the side of your TB, a little round flat plug type thing on the left i believe with wires comin out of it. you can clean it with carb cleaner.

Hello. Hey first, try something. Whenever it does this, and you pull over and its idling at 2K. Turn on the max A/C and see if it goes back down to the normal idle. If it does than it is the IAC. The reason this works, is the computer has a peice of data it looks at called "Engine Load". Engine Load is read as a percentage, and there is more engine load at idle with the A/C on, then off, for obvious reasons. The computer decifers data from this engine load partly to tell what the IAC to do. Good luck. ;)

ok i took the thing out that is on the passenger side of my intake, next to the TB (four wire plug) and cleaned it with carb cleaner. it seems to be working fine now, but do you think i should drip a few drops of oil in the thing? it seemed really slow in moving like it was sticking or something. is it supposed to move slow or ? anyways. it seems to be working fine.
