I don't want to sound like a complete noob (even though I kinda am ). I've hear replacing the driveshaft with an all aluminum one, will do wonders for our 1/4 mile times. Anyone have any info on that? The general cost of that piece or how much of an improvement it'll give?

You should be able to find one for $75 to $150 shipped. Easy install, just unbolt at the rear u-joint, unbolt the center section if you're a two piece, and pull outta the tranny. New one piece just slips in, bolts up. Maybe 10 or 20 lb weight reduction, which is spinning, but with a small diameter that some consider negligible rotating mass.
Moral of the story: get one.

do most people who mod their car get them? I've read that someone with the y87 package, a4, whisper lid and aluminum drivehaft ran 14.9. Is that bullcrap?
hehe what about a carbon fiber driveshaft?
what exactly is it anyway, and what does it do? I assume it works on automatics~The Guru\'s Guru~
1999 Camaro,K&N,!MAF
!airsilencer,3.08s,
NGK-TR6\'s,Taylor Blue 8mm wires,FRAM,A4,Catco Cat, Magnaflow 3 inch catback,transgo shift kit
Waiting: RK sport headers, custom y pipe electric cutout
www.cardomain.com/id/divinejc

alum and cf d/s are lighter than steel and reduce weight and rotating mass, which requires energy, so therefor transfers more power to the wheels. carbon fiber are big money driveshafts, in excess of 6 C-notes.... slightly lighter than aluminum and very strong. the big bonus that i see to them is that when they break, they shatter into thousands of fiber strands and sweep the dirt off the bottom of your car instead of smashing everything up. because of their price you'd have to be pretty hardcore, i mean pushing lots of power where you'd expect to snap your driveshaft, in order to warrant putting one on. go with the aluminum. they're actually what gm calls for as a fix to vibration problems. my crappy 2-piece is going bad so its a perfect chance to replace it with a take-off aluminum shaft.
