A/C Problems...

  • A/C Problems...

    My A/C runs very cold at times but at other times it seems to blow on slightly cool air. It does not matter if it is on A/C or Max it really has the same results. I have not been able to pin point exactly when it does this. It's not really when I first start it up and it's not really after I have been driving for awhile, it just seems to happen at random.

    I checked the lines near the condenser and they seem very cold and a lot of the time the A/C in the cabin is very cold.

    The only thing that I have noticed is sometimes under hard acceleration the air get's warmer, but not always.

    I have searched this site and camaroz28.com to death and I have not really found a way to trouble shoot this problem.

    I live in Houston and hot weather is getting here fast..!! I need to be able to diagnose this and get it fixed before the dog days of summer arrive.

    Would just a simple A/C charge work...?? I could do that myself. I did read somewhere that if there was not enough coolant in the system the compressor would not engage. Does anyone know if this is true..??

    Any help would be greatly appreciated....!!!

    sorry, did not see the long thread just below about basically the same question...

    you guys think the same answers apply to me about the recharge kit and the gauges...???

      A lot of people in the post agree that their AC cuts out at high RPMs, so it is probably designed to do this.
      Although stagen disagrees and retorts with:

      So maybe that is why it is cutting off?
      From the same post, Landon has a problem with that nasty pressure sensor:

      So if it turns off at high RPMs, then this is normal.
      If it turns off (or goes from max to less cold) after running it for a long time, then this is normal.
      If neither of these are the case, try replacing the pressure sensor and doing a recharge.

      Now, common, be honest, did you really use search first?

        The part where you talk about accelerating and the air gets warmer could possibly indicate a vacuum problem. I don't think one exists, but just to be sure, look over all the vaccuum lines, especially near your a/c components. Some of them are vacuum controlled. It may be normal under hard acceleration though. I would not undergo hard acceleration with the a/c on though, sure way to ruin the compressor and they are not cheap.

          Yeah, I REALLY did a search before I posted, but none of the answer's really solved my problem. But really it does it only rarely (maybe once a week) so I am not that worried about it.

          Anyway, thanks for the input.

          Now, let's get on to really what matters... how to go faster...!!!! Screw the A/C....!!
