• My T-top lock just broke!!!!

Great day today, so I took the tops off for the ride home from school. I get home, eat, take a nap, and go to put the tops back on. As I take the driver side up out of the storage rack in the trunk, I hear a rattling; it sounded like only one thing was rattling inside the assembly. Them I go to put it on, and DING! The lock thing just falls out of the hole and onto the ground!! The latch still works correctly, I just can't lock the driver side now.
I really scared now. I don't want my top to fly off. How do I fix this? Even with the lock out, there is still a rattling inside. How much do new tops cost? This sucks  :(

BTW, I always lock my tops, in case that helps.

Well, I can tell you the t-top won't fly off without them locked. Since I got my t-tops from a junk yard for my conversion, I don't even have the keys that fit them and therefore can't lock them and As long as they're latched, they're not gonna fly off.

A lock smith should be able to fix that for you.... I had one here in town quote me $10/top to have them re-keyed to my door key, so they should be able to fix whatever's wrong with yours.... and if not, you can always buy a new top and have it re-keyed.

Good luck!

If its rattling inside the body where the latch is it's probly the c-clip worked itself off the lock . when I changed mine you just have to take the protective peice off the T-top and then put the lock back in and then insert the c-clip and the lock should be held in place. If you need anymore help mail me

2 Summers ago I forgot to lock my t-top and it did fly off the car going about 70 I told the insurance company the lock was broken and they bought it and replaced the whole thing for free.

Pretty dumb of me forgetting to make sure the thing was locked into place

it is very easy to take the t-top apart and yes all that holds the lock mechanism in place is a c-clip

take the working one apart and compare and you can fix it yourself.

You forgot to lock it, or forgot to latch it? If it's latch, then you are a moron . If lock, then I am in deep poo until I fix this.

Do I need a new c-clip, or did the thing just rattle out? Do I just unscrew the screws on the sides of the top and just lift off? I assume so. Thanks for the replies so far, guys

the actual cylinder lock has nothing to do with how the handle and the locking bars operate.

Your friend obviously did not turn the handle to slide the pins into the lock position. You would understand what im talking about if you ever took a t-top apart.
