Bad gas mileage? New fuel pump?

Hey just wanted to ask a question. My 98 3.8 is getting about 220-240 per tank an its starting to get to me. I know it could be the tires, I know it could be because I drive it pretty hard.

I could probably pull a few mpg with a new K&N since I have a fram right now, I dont think I need a tune up because I did one not too long ago, just a little less than one year ago.

What suggestions would you give me to up the gas mileage. I was going to get new tires (which I need) new spark plugs, new wires, possibly a new fuel pump, a new K&N air filter. Fuel filter perhaps? Run some injector cleaner or seafoam? Anything in here sound about right?

I get between 320 and 340 per tank up here in the altitude of Colorado. That doesn't sound right to me... maybe I'm the exception, though.

Try cleaning your MAF sensor, cleaning/replacing your air filter, plugs/wires, have your cat checked etc.

Thx for the suggestions, ill get the cat checked when I get my electronic cutout installed. The wires and plugs will have to wait cus I dont feel like doing that in the next few days.

i only get 240 miles with my v6 also. It's a little under 20 per gallon. What's up!?!?!?!

I have the exact same problem w/my 98 3.8 220-240 miles MAX

ONLY recently have i found that my fuel pump is dying.....and as a result of IT dying my starter died and i had it replaced wednesday.. now onto the fuel pump!

You might also want to see about replacing your oxygen sensors (O2 sensors). I'm not a pro, but I think they may be giving bad air/fuel readings to your engine management system, throwing off the amount of fuel it's dumping into your cylinders.

Cassie, did you ever have your fuel filter replaced before your pump went bad? I believe the fuel pumps in our vehicles are susceptible to early failure if they have to work too hard to pump the fuel past the filter.
