First off i have been a lurker for about 6 months or more now so here i finaly am on the scene! :D
Ok about a month ago my engin blew up it was the origional 97 with 124k miles on it and my mechanic who has been working on my cars longer than i rember put in a 98 HO 3800II moter. Ok befor i get flamed about this on my first post this is what he told me. that the Headers are bigger or somthing.. anyway i checked prices myself on it and didnt see a difference :shrugs: anyway i was wondering if anyone had ever heard of an HO 3800II engin???? oh ya.. i had my puter fully reprogrammed at the time however it didnt remove the speed governer just the RPM limiter i havnt had a chance to realy take it to the strip yet but i was running 16.2 with my last moter and everything but the programming and the new moter so i cant wait to see what happens my cars name is Zeros and im doing it up to commerate the 30th Anniversery of the Camaro with some specialy designed graphics to go on the front.. anyway .. need comments on this moter thing..

EXP626 Oh ya.. just for you peeps that want to know about Stage III programing let me know and ill get you the info from my mechanic.. ya it burns the tires in first and second fairly easy ;)

The only high output 3.8 i know of is in some of the grand am gts, wait maybe they are 3.4?? well if its a 3800 series two from a 98 camaro he is blowing smoke up your rear they have the same 200 hp 225 ft lbs torque motor that 99% of us all have. stage 3 programming??? i had my pcm programmed for everything i have including the cam, ls1 injectors, remove speed limiter raise the governer, adjust shift points and so on, never heard of "stage3" programming, sounds like your mechanic talks alot of sh**, hopefully he doesnt mess you over :(

Honstly i dont think he is.. well he called it stage III reprogramming of the PCM all i know (laymens terms: is that my dang puter in my car has been reprogrammed) is my computer (PCM) has been reprogrammed and runs a lot better after it was reprogrammed.. rev limiter is off and the shift points are definatly different.. i was just realy courious about the HO engin type thingy because i had never heard of it.. maby its just that its a new engin or somthing not HO but needless to say i think i am going to roll some change and take it to the strip this friday and find out.. if it dosnt run any faster than my old engin then ill definatly be sitting down there next monday breathing down his neck :D i was also debating on what to do to my car next.. either appearence or speed stuff.. hmmm

There is no 3800 HO engine, nor "Stage III" reprogramming.

What source document can he show that proves this?

I agree. Also, if you're not going to say engine and prefer "motor" you spell it as "motor" and not Moter.

www.dictionary.com is helpful.

Apparently i have come off on the wrong foot, sorry about the spelling problems.. as for the source of the documentation ill get it and put it up if at all possible. i have read of the reprograming of the computers on here befor, since hypertech didnt make a programmer for the 97 camaro that i have found, and the only other thing i have found is the jet II chip. any other suggestions?

Im surprised noone has told you this yet, If you have stock internals especially valve springs you should not have the rev limiter removed, even with stronger spings it shouldnt be removed, raised yes but certainly not taken off completely.

It sounds as if his mechanic built up is motor a little, he probably P&P'd, milled the heads, and replaced his valve springs, and his mechanic called it an HO engine. Then he programmed his 'puter to work better with these change and called it a "stage III" job.

Sounds like it's a performance shop and they are doing their own work, and calling it what they want. You should find out what is involved in stage I and II reprogramming.

Exp62 - How much did you pay for this "HO" Motor?

Do you have any details as to what went into it? Did your mechanic tell you what he did?

Ya accualy i talked to him today.. Heads were milled and valve springs were replaced, he also said somthing about port and polish too. i was there when the programming was done. the car will take the rpms to 6000 into the red in first gear befor it shifts and then it grabs and gos. The programming consisted of changing the shift points, making it shift harder and firmer, adjusted my MAF for the SLP, and some related stuff i know nothing about lol. the programming job was outsourced to another guy and im going to get the paperwork from him as to what was involved in the programming. As for the price i only payed $1800 for the Motor and $400 on instllation. the Motor had 30k miles on it when i got it. i called a few junkyards and got about the same price for the motor. also he gave me a warrenty for the year on it so i am still guessing i got a resonable price.
