CLICKIN NOISE wtf is it?

hey guys, i'm pretty much new at this board, and i don't have that much knowledge on a 3800 II engines, which brings me to my question, just today, (btw i have a 96 3.8 maro) i started hearing a weird TICKING sound under the car, sounds like it's coming from the bottom of the drivers side, every time when i'm at a stop light and i slightly push the gas that ticking noise starts, but then it gets to a point that when i'm at 2000rpms it fades away, also if i keep it under 20 miles an hour, it will keep dong that clicking noise until i accelerate more, lets say theres a stop light and i'm like 200 ft away, and i start to push the brakes very slowly until i'm going like at 10mph and then let go that brakes it starts doing that clicking noise again, most of time i have my music on and i can't hear it, but when i don't have it, it gets really annoying, it's not loud loud loud, but slightly loud to annoy any one. does anyone have any ideas of that the problem would be? i aprreciate if you guys would help me out here, [img]graemlins/dunce.gif[/img]

i have something similar, not exactly a ticking, but like something stuck in the intake hose flying around, and it goes away at about 2000 RPMs as well...

check to see if your intake hose is not loose [img]smile.gif[/img] you muight have the same prob as me.

Do you possibly get the low trac light? If so it is your ABS giving out on you and then coming back in that is what the ticking is.

well i checked intake and there is nothing looose seal, but i really doubt there is something literally inside the intake, although i do have a nitrous system, and i'm running a 75 shot and i already used it like 4 times,do you think that might be causing it to make noise like that? and to tell you the truth FUSION i do get low trac light on sometimes, but thats when i step on the gas hard and brake real hard on the freeway, or on the street but just for like 5 secs then it goes of, but other than that no, i don't get low trac lights on all the time. is it normal for you to get a low trac once in a while, i mean like once every years or so?

If it does it when you start pushing the gas you may have a spark pulg wire that is arching

ohhh so "chevycamaro18" i just changed my stock spark plugs to high preformance spark plugs about 2 months ago

I had a clicking noise coming from under my car as well. I got my car up on a lift while they were installing my muffler and noticed a little metal band had come loose and was just hanging on my exhaust pipe. It was what was causing all the rattling under my car, ever since I took it off I haven't heard another click. Theres a ton of little things like that under your car that can come loose and make that sound so if you get a chance, get your car on a lift and just take a really good look under your car.

well, the best solution is, get a muffler loud as hell, and you wont hear it :D

You haven't installed gears or anything have you. There are all kinds of depths and measurements that must be correct or a clicking noise could result. Also like someone alreadfy said, it sounds like it could be the reluctor ring for ABS brakes. I don't think anything on the exhaust would cause a clicking it would be more of a rattle. You need to put the rearend on jackstands and get under your car with a stethoscope (or a metal tube) and find where its coming from.

whatever change you made is probably the culprit.

Look at your exhaust starting from the headers and look for leaks. Thats what mine was. Right were the right header met the y pipe it was cracked all the way around it. That may not be it but check.

Import, is your A/C on? If so turn it off and see if it still does it. Mine does the same thing when my A/C is on, I have no clue why though....

thanks for the suggestion guys, i will double check everything that is listed in this message board twice, and i will go with your suggestion "fusion and scooby, that it might be my my abs giving out on me, but what kind prices would i expect on fixing the the reluctor ring for abs brakes? "blitzpuppet" as i said in my first message, i don';t have much knowledge on camaro engines or any other engines, so can you tell me how could you turn the A/C on and off?

A ticking sound is often an exhaust leak, at the manifold to head, or at the y-pipe to manifold joint.

I also had a loose spark plug one time, and as the air leaked out around it on each compression stroke, it would tick similar to an exhaust leak.

hehe a/c is the air conditioning. Turn the dial to off and see if it still does it.
