hi i all i have just brought a 94 camaro, but i have a small problem...... :(

ok here goes, lets say i am doing about 60-70 mph and i brake quickley i get a service engine light come on and stay on till i switch off the car. now bare this in mind the car drive fine with no other problems it will do miles and miles with normal driving it only seems to light the ses light when i brake suddenly from speeds

should i reset the memory? as i have only just got the car and maybe its possible its bringing up an old code ????

1 more thing this may be unrelated, but the cat seems to rattle a bit at certain rpm

hopw i have given enough info, any help would be cool

    thanks guys :D

sounds like an 02 or EGR fault to me. If the code comes on while driving it's not a old code it's a current code. You can get it scanned to see what it is to find out but if your cat is indeed rattleing you need to get that replaced ASAP

maybe something with the ABS or traction control?..i dont know if you have these options on your car..i'd just buy a code scanner/clearer...i got one on ebay for $50 ...then you could find out what the problem is and hopefully be able to fix it yourself...that $50 has saved me a lot of $$$ in labor

My 94 did the exact same thing, it was the EGR. PITA POS.

abs will set a brake light or ABS inop light. Not an SES light. Considering the year and way the code is setting I would bet he is getting an EGR fault due to cloged EGR passages

Just clean the EGR passages and the EGR itself w/ carb cleaner. Worked for me.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. It takes exhaust gasses and reintroduces them into the intake to cool combustion chamber temps reducing the amounts of emittions.

When the Valve is comanded on the PCM expects to see a change in engine pressure baded on MAP sensor voltage. When this change is not seen it will set a code for the EGR. This is probably what is happening but a code scan will confirm.

I belive that on the 3.4's the valve is on the passenger side of the motor. It sits on a formed peice that goe sto the intake. This is called the passageway. When this passage gets pluged with carbon it will prevent the change in pressure and set the code. You can remove the valve and throughly clean the passage ways

When you fix it, i know theres a way to clear the code yourself with a paperclip and your COM port, and theres a writeup somewhere on the net, but i forget how.

Just unhook the negitive batery termonal or unplug the PCM batt fuse for a while.
