  • Jet Chip Stage 2...WTF?! -*UPDATE* -more confused..

I have the Jet Chip Stage 2 in my car..and tonight I found my self asking..why?

I paid over $250 thinking it would adjust my shift points..and more importantly..remove the governor!

Well..I've never topped out in my car since I got it installed, and I've had it for months..Today I was on some country roads..so I thought I would test it out..I punch it..and the speedo QUICKLY climbs to 115 MPH ( 3.4 = 115 MPH ) Once it hits 115 MPH, the RPMs drop and the entire car 'bogs' and automatically slows down..The tach wasn't even near redlining either..SO WTF??? What the hell does this chip do? I was, and still am pretty mad after discovering this today. I was thinking about Nitrous soon, but what's the point if I couldn't break 115?

Any ideas of what I should do? And how I can remove the governor? Tomorrow, i'm going back to the place I bought it from, and ask them about it.

Sorry to hear it. I have warned people in the past, that those things are a waste of money. People are way better off, putting their money into another mod.

I would try and get your money back, cause those things are crap.

I don't know a lot about nitrous, or how the Jet Chip works, but I'm pretty sure that nitrous+Jet Chip=bad things happening. Doesn't it advance the timing some?? Advanced timing and nitrous = blown motor. I doubt your going to top out in the 1/4 with nitrous unless your going to be putting one massive shot on. Look at James, he runs 12's and doesn't even hit 115, and he has the 3.8L

As for removing the speed limiter, see if someone can reprogram your PCM. That is pretty crappy that it doesn't remove the governor, maybe it's not installed right??

Hey man, sorry to hear that you didn't get what you thought you were getting. Check this place out. fastchip They have one that will remove the limiter, if that is all you want. I would try and keep the Jet and have this also, if it is at all posible.

#1 You must be mistaken because the speed limiter on the 3.4's is 110.

#2 Jet doesn't promise to remove the speed limiter so I don't know where you got that idea.

Jet chip probably increases trans line pressure and plays with the MAF signal a little.

It's been a while for me but I don't think the 3.4s have a maf sensor. I think they work on MAP only.

3.4's didn't have a MAF. The PCM module just controls the air/fuel mixture and if your lucky adjusts shifts via pressure.

Definitley not worth the money IMHO. But, the speed limiter should not have any bearing on whether you get nitrous or not.

If it's a 94 the speed limiter is 105. On the 1995 models when the 3.8 came out mid year the limiter was raised to 115 MPH

Ok..last night on the highway, I gunned it and watched the speedo. I was very pleased with the results..The needle passed 115 MPH and I just burried the speedo..It was burried for a good 7 seconds, so I adjusted my eyes to the tach..my RPMs were climbing higher, and higher,,and then hit the redline..THAT's when my car bogged,,and the RPMs fell and I slowed down..

                      Now I need some clarification..

                      1) What's the difference between the governor, speed limiter, and rev limiter? I think the governor and speed limiter are the same thing..

                      2) Is there a way to remove the rev limiter?

                        1. A governor is a mechanical device that limits the top speed. A speed limiter is the electronic equivalent to the governor. Its built into the PCM.

                        2. PCM reprogramming. Just remember the rev limiter is there for a good reason and probably shouldn't be messed with unless you've upgraded the valvetrain components.

So did the Jet chip give you any SOTP gain. My car gets stuck @ 110 and really won't move farther. Is this a good mod?
