• New Guy Here

Hello Everyone, have a basic question I was hoping some peeps could help me out with.

How many miles should your car have before you modify it, and is there a set Mileage when you shouldn't?

Got pissed off the other day when I was on the road at this ricer who revved his fart-can at me. I decided to head down to the local performance shop. The guy there laughed at me when I said I had a Six, he said, "About all you can do to those is drop a K&N and get dual-exhaust to increase performance." I was mad and decided to get online to see if that was true, lo-and-behold I found this site and few performance sites to help me in my Quest.

Sorry it's long-winded but I sometimes get that way, my apologies.

unfortunately for that guy... lol.. he is an idiot..

we have cams, headers, superchargers, turbo kits (soon to be) port and polished heads, 3 angle valve jobs. roller rockers, nitrous, colda air intakes, rear end gears. limited slip differential. numerous suspension mods, body kits, functional ramair hoods.. you can swap in forged internals for higher boost, bigger nitrous shot.

its basically unlimited to what you can do with your car.

i'd say if you have the money, you can easily make your car a 12 second car.

Yea, that guy is a moron. There's not such thing as true "dual" exhaust for any F body.

You've deffinately come to the right place to find out about the 3800. Chances are if someone here doesn't know it, then no one does. There's no really set milage to start modding, just start whenever you feel like it

Too find out if you have the Y87 package, look at the RPO codes on your door, if you have it, you'll see "Y87" :D

The best first mods are intake and exhaust. Then you work up from there. You can try with a power adder, like a turbo, blower or nitrous.

        Welcome aboard

BTW, this is more a General Tech question, but we'll forgive you ;)

Do you have an auto or 5-spd? If you have an auto, you can always get a high-stall torque converter. I'm happy with mine, just make sure to get an aftermarket transmission oil cooler to go along with it. 3.42 rear gears or 3.73s are very popular with our cars. I have 3.42s. There are numerous induction mods you can do. check out these sites: www.tbyrne.com www.thunderracing.com www.fasttoys.net

All of these have performance products specifically made for the 3800 II.

              How do you figure?

You can set up true duals on an F-body.

**Ok it's 2:20 in the afternoon just woke up from the phatest party of my life still a little f***ed up from last night and really board so here goes...

Ok you already got an exhaust. Now you need a whisper airbox lid, (u can do this mod urself for free but the lid looks waybetter) then some kind of CAI (cold air induction) to go under the airbox. For that you can spend some money on a nice looking kit but if ur short u can do that urself for free also by cutting out the bottom of the airbox.

Now that you have the basic intake/exhaust you can start getting more technical. Get some ceramic coated headers and a high flow cat.

Gears are very important to acceleration to find out which gears you have, look on the sticker on the drivers side door. If you see GU4 then you have the crappy 3.08 gears, if you see GU6, then u have the nice 3.42's. If you have 3.08's then you should really consider getting better gears. New gearing plus a Limited Slip Diff. together can knock off .5 sec of the quartermile

Now after this if u really want to continue u can look into the supersix powerpack ads 50HP but for $1900 if you got the dough. Otherwise there are other ways to port/polish you heads, manifolds, get a new cam, etc. Then for like 4-5 hundred you can get rocker arms and pushrods- good for another ~10HP.

Now it's time to take the big step, getting a major power adder. If u want and have 4 grand laying around u could get you car super or possibly turbocharged. But if your an average person and don't have that kind of money laying around your house then I suggest Nitrous Oxide. There is someone on this board that runs 12's he recomends NOS kit 5175. Get some better plugs/wires before you do this and the other nessary safty things. There's lots of nitrous accesseries u can fool around with.

Well I hoped this help alot im gonnna go back to bed now and do the same thing tonight all over again. Welcome to the board newbie. Peace

Automatic. I will look at my door and check out the gears, how much are the 3.42's and 3.73's and recommended supplier? Torque Converters, price and recommended makers?

Awesome thanks everyone for the tips, going into Mod mode now . I REALLY want to go with a S/C but for now that wouldn't be feasible, so looks like NOS is the way I am going to go..... for now :D .

                  Summary:

                  1) Looks like I need to open up the "breathing" aspect of my car first before I do anything too drastic, CAI etc.

                  2) Torque Converter.
                  3) Gears next.

I ment no one makes true duals, and its un practicle to have one made. It would have to be custom, and would cost a lot more than a proven good exhaust system, and probably perform worse.

nothing RKsport does is highly reccomended. over priced and bad products. if you want headers, go with pacesetters. so far nothign but glory for them.

torque converter. the hot new converter on the block is the edge racing converter. nice people and service. seem to work well. CHEAP, TOO. 425$ for them. like 300 cheaper than any other place.
