Idle pulley. I was driving today and my idle pully threw off the serpentine belt. How much does a Idle pulley cost? Its kinda cracked. The belt is fine. I was scared as crap cause I lost A/C and Power steering and stuff. O well Im ok. Just need to know the ? on that before I get it done tomorrow. Thanks Guys

do you know the idler pulley is bad? have you put the belt back on and run the engine to watch what happens?

are you paying to get it done or are you doing it yourself? if you do indeed need to replace this pulley, it's a pretty simple job, you might consider doing it yourself. i believe haynes has a good guide to doing this. it should only cost you the cost of the part. most shops would probably charge you between .5 and 1.5 hours labor (around $30-$120). call your local auto parts store for the price of the part. if yours is worn, go ahead and put a new serpentine belt on it too. in fact, i would suggest this because the old belt has been run on a damaged pulley.

You lost AC while you were driving??? Good god, man! Was there sweat? That could have got on your seat. :D Sorry. I've replaced my tensioner pully before. That was way easy. it was something like $30. I think everything else is steel. That's the one you cracked, right?

difference in performance? did you get a different size pulley or something or was your old one just that bad that it was causing parasitic drag on engine?
