depends on ambient temp and, engine rpm, and amt of air flowing across condenser.
what are your pressures low/high side?
look at both low and high side for proper diagnosis. also feel hoses with AC on. high side should be hot coming out of compressor, low side should be cold coming from evaporator. any major frosting indicates restriction. confirm this with pressures.
oh yeah, a 97 that has lost charge probably has a leak. make sure it holds vacuum for around 30 min before recharging. don't just dump some 134 in there until the pressures come back up.
