  • Oil Question

Today I was over at my friends house and we were changing the oil on his car. He was opening the new oil bottle and dropped the whole foil seal into that bottle. So we put a piece of screen over the bottle and poured the oil in. The screen didn't catch the foil seal. How bad is this going to be on his engine. Shouldn't the foil heat up and melt?

The oil filter should catch it.

if it fell in the bottle and the screen didn't catch it, then it's in the bottle still isn't it??

How about you re-drain that oil and hope that the piece of foil comes out?

What brand oil exactly did you guys use that contained a foil seal? I was just wondering so I dont make that mistake in the future. Some 5 quart jugs do contain a foil seal but I carefully dispose of that to make sure. Like the above posts mentioned, I'm sure the 60 psi pressure will make that seal make its way home into your new oil filter. Pull your valve covers off if you aren't satisifed with the advice given and maybe check your valvetrain while your at it too. Doesn't hurt to peek ya know?
